The best of both worlds. EV (Electric) Mode.

Simply switch between HEV (Hybrid) and EV (Electric) modes via the drive mode switch. By default, the Plug-in runs in EV mode, and is powered entirely by the electric motor. And when additional power is required, such as to provide heating during start-up, when driving up steep hills and under hard acceleration, the system will temporarily switch to HEV (Hybrid) mode.

HEV (Hybrid) mode.

HEV (Hybrid) mode is automatically activated when the high-voltage battery is depleted, or when manual mode (Sport drive mode) is selected via the gear lever or paddle shifters.

With Apple CarPlay™^[P1] and Android™^[P2] Auto compatibility, your IONIQ takes the things you like doing with your smartphone while driving and puts them safely on your extra-large built-in display. For a fast, convenient and neater way to recharge your smartphone, simply place it on the wireless charging pad. No cables, no mess, no flat smartphone battery.

Regenerative braking.

To complement its ability to recharge its battery using external power sources, the IONIQ Plug-In Hybrid also utilises regenerative braking, which charges the battery each time you brake as well as while cruising. This maximises efficiency, prolongs your charge level and increases your driving range. Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters allow you to increase or decrease the amount of regenerative braking you can potentially produce.

Plug-in charging – AC charger.

In addition to regenerative recharging while braking, the IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid can also have its lithium-ion battery recharged in as little as 2 hours 15 minutes^[C1] when connected to the 3.3kW AC wall charger at home^[C1].

Hyundai SmartSense™ safety.^[H1]

This brilliant suite of safety technologies alerts you to potential dangers around you, and helps you avoid them. The Premium variant includes Lane Following Assist (LFA) which, when activated, will help keep you safely centred in your lane at speeds of up to 150km/h. And Smart Cruise Control, which detects the speed and distance of the vehicles ahead of you and maintains a safe distance from them.

Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with auto-hold function.

Compared to a conventional hand brake, the Electronic Parking Brake is effortless to operate. The auto hold function maintains braking pressure after you've come to a stop, ensuring you won't accidentally creep forward or roll backwards even with the brake pedal released.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) - City/Urban/Interurban/Pedestrian.

The front radar sensor and windshield-mounted camera detect and monitor vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists in front of you. If a potential collision is detected, you’ll receive audible and visual warnings, and your brakes may be applied too.

Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC w/ S&G).

Detects the speed and distance of vehicles ahead of you, and maintains a safe distance from them. In stop/start traffic, it will automatically bring you to a stop when appropriate, then automatically accelerate back up to the original set speed.

Lane Keeping Assist - Line (LKA-L).

At speeds of +60 km/h, if your IONIQ detects that it’s straying out of its lane without its indicators being activated, an audible and visual alert will be triggered.

Lane Following Assist (LFA).

Using the front windshield-mounted camera, Lane Following Assist detects lane markers on the road and provides steering assistance to ensure the vehicle stays in the centre of the lane.

Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW).

Radar sensors on the rear bumper will alert you to vehicles next to and diagonally behind you, in case you haven’t already noticed them.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW).

Keeps an eye out for vehicles approaching from either side of you when you’re reversing out of a perpendicular parking space. If it detects them, audible and visual warnings will activate.

High Beam Assist (HBA).

Scans the road ahead for lights, then automatically adjusts headlamp range, switching between high and low beam.

Driver Attention Warning (DAW).

If the system detects erratic steering, sudden braking or an inability to stay within your lane, driving alerts will appear on your screen. Based on how long you’ve been driving, it may also recommend you take a break.

Ultra-low emissions at your command.

The IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid combines the qualities of a conventional petrol engine with an electric motor vehicle. When driving in electric mode, the IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid primarily uses charge from the battery, until it becomes too low, at which point it reverts to hybrid mode automatically.
